Squirrel-Resistant Hanging Metal Tube Bird Feeder — Weight-Activated
Product description
Weight-activated squirrel defense: The feeder uses a spring-loaded perch mechanism that depresses under heavier animals, sealing the feeding openings so squirrels and bigger pests cannot access seed. Small wild birds such as finches, chickadees and cardinals can feed with the perch in its relaxed position.
Four feeding positions and clear seed sleeve: This hanging tube feeder provides four ports around the lower section so multiple birds can feed at once. A transparent inner tube holds the seed and makes it easy to check remaining levels without disassembly.
Heavy metal construction and chew resistance: The outer cage and cap are formed from heavy-gauge metal to resist squirrel gnawing and general wear. The feeder is built without plastic in key structural parts, helping it endure rain, sun and snow for season-to-season use.
Removable design for cleaning and refilling: The top unscrews to allow refilling through an approximately two-inch opening, and a spring-loaded bottom pin can be released to access the interior for cleaning. The inner sleeve and metal components separate for thorough washing and drying.
Flexible hanging and placement tips: Hang from tree branches, shepherd hooks or patio hardware. To maximize squirrel protection, suspend it where branch-to-feeder reach is limited. The feeder includes the metal tube, metal cap/hat, perches and hanging wire with a spring-loaded bottom pin for disassembly and maintenance.
Pros
- Effective weight-activated squirrel deterrent
- Durable metal build resists chewing and weather
- Clear inner tube and removable parts simplify upkeep
Cons
- Narrow refill opening and center pole make pouring seed a bit fiddly
- Heavier unit needs a sturdy hanger to avoid swinging
- Not absolutely squirrel-proof if within reach from branches
VerdictThis metal hanging tube feeder delivers strong squirrel resistance through a spring-loaded, weight-activated perch that closes the feeding holes under heavy pressure. Its all-metal exterior with a clear inner sleeve is built to resist chewing and weather. The four-port layout accommodates several small birds at once and the removable components make cleaning manageable, though refilling can be fid

Doing its job quietly
I can’t personally watch squirrels try and fail because the feeder hangs at the back of the yard, but seed is disappearing slowly as if only small birds are eating. Chickadees and sparrows visit regularly, and squirrels haven’t wiped it out like they did with another feeder nearby.

Keeps squirrels at bay so far
This anti-squirrel feeder has been performing well. It holds a good amount of seed and attracts birds reliably. Squirrels try to grab and shake it, so make sure the hanger is solid, but they haven’t managed to open it. It’s holding up like feeders that cost more, so I feel it’s a sensible option for the price.

Built to last and genuinely squirrel-resistant
This feeder performs exactly as advertised when hung where squirrels can’t reach it. Within minutes of installing it, chickadees and nuthatches were feeding. It’s hefty so it resists wind, fills easily through the top opening, and the bottom spring pin gives access for cleaning. Quality materials and construction suggest this will be a long-lasting fixture.

Great gift for birdwatchers
This green metal tube feeder is both attractive and practical. The weight-activated perch cleverly blocks squirrels while allowing finches and cardinals to feed. Four ports make it lively, and the chew-proof metal frame stands up to weather. The clear tube makes refills and checks simple, and the unit has become a busy spot for birds in my garden.

Attractive and functional, but a bit fiddly to fill
Looks good in the yard and the birds are visiting frequently. The paint and hardware are well done. Filling requires a narrow pour because of the center pole, so use a seed spout or small funnel. I removed the bottom pin as suggested but couldn’t fully separate every piece — for now I rinse it out from the top and let it dry. The extendable wire perches seem fine for birds; time will tell how they hold up under squirrel abuse.

Heavy-duty feel and clever squirrel barrier
Feels far more substantial than cheap plastic feeders. The green finish looks natural in the garden and the roughly three-pound capacity cuts down on trips to refill. The weight-activated perch allows small birds to feed while heavier visitors cause the ports to close. I wouldn’t promise any feeder is 100% foolproof, but this one definitely raises the difficulty for persistent squirrels. Drain holes and disassembly for cleaning are useful extras; refilling through the top can be a minor nuisance.

Solid construction, works against local squirrels
With many squirrels around here I wanted something tough. This feeder is almost entirely metal except for the clear inner sleeve, and the spring-loaded outer cage is effective at keeping critters out. Unscrewing the top to refill isn't the fastest method, but given the durable build and lack of plastic parts it's a trade-off I'm happy with. The birds are enjoying it and squirrels haven’t breached it so far.
