Extra-Short Hollow Wall Anchors for Thin Drywall and Hollow Panels (0–5 mm)
Product description
How they work: Each fastener is a short metal sleeve with fold-out legs. A screw runs through the sleeve; as the screw is driven or pulled, the sleeve flares open behind the panel and forms a wide seating area. That expansion spreads force across a larger backing, lowering the chance the fastener will pull free.
Construction and kit contents: The set supplies extra-short hollow anchors and matching screws made from high-grade carbon steel with a protective zinc finish for corrosion resistance. The compact profile is designed for shallow cavities and thin sheet materials. The package provides multiple anchors and screws sized for panels 0–5 mm thick.
Load and sizing: These anchors are intended for very thin walls and shallow hollow panels. When properly expanded they are rated to support light loads—typically in the 20–40 lb range depending on substrate and installation quality. They are sized specifically for 0–5 mm wall thicknesses where standard longer anchors would not seat properly.
Installation steps: Installation follows a four-step routine: drill the appropriate-size pilot hole, push the anchor into the hole until the flange is flush, draw the screw or use the squeeze/pull setting tool so the legs flare behind the panel, then tighten and mount your item. The hollow design lets the sleeve deform and lock into place within thin, hollow substrates.
Compatible materials: These short molly-style anchors work with very thin metal and plastic panels, hollow doors, thin drywall, aluminium sheeting, cardboard-backed surfaces and shallow hollow sections such as caravan walls and some metal posts. Because the sleeve is short, it won’t pass through thin material and is intended for low‑depth cavities.
Typical uses: Use them for light fixtures like curtain rods, small wall shelves, picture frames, D‑rings, license plates and light racks. For the cleanest, most reliable expansion, a hand setting or crimping tool is recommended; some users install them carefully with a screwdriver when the hole is snug.
Pros
- Short sleeves designed for 0–5 mm thin panels
- Zinc‑plated carbon‑steel for strength and corrosion resistance
- Expands behind panel to distribute load over a wider area
Cons
- Best performance requires a setting tool for proper expansion
- Overtightening can risk screw breakage
- Flange is round and can be hard to hold during install
VerdictA practical kit when you must anchor into very thin or hollow panels. The short expansion sleeves provide good load distribution and roughly 20–40 lb capacity when installed correctly. Best results come with the recommended setting tool, but careful manual installation can work. Well suited for light to moderate hanging jobs on thin drywall, metal or plastic panels.

Handy for very thin walls
Ideal for extremely thin hollow walls. The setting tool helps but a tight pilot hole lets you install them with a screwdriver if needed.

Great for mounting on a hollow metal post
Mounted an outdoor Wi‑Fi unit to a square hollow metal post. Drilled, inserted, squeezed the sleeves and it held perfectly.

Works well but tricky to hold
Good fasteners and solid threads, but they spin in the hole during install. If the flange had flats it would be easier to grip with pliers or a wrench.

Drywall only
They performed well on drywall but weren’t suitable for other stubborn substrates I tried.

Failed for my shelf
Some screws snapped during installation and the anchors didn’t hold—shelf fell right away.

Exactly what I needed
Short anchors that fit my thin wall perfectly. Simple and effective.

A must-have in my toolbox
Work reliably across different hollow walls. I always keep a few on hand now.

Perfect for thin metal or plastic
Great for thin materials—buy the installation tool. These won’t fully set with just a screwdriver. The fasteners are cleanly made and very solid.

Sturdy and adaptable
Used these on hollow plastic pieces. With the crimping tool they clamp tightly and spread the load. Hung a 20 lb stepper with a D-ring and it held steady.
