Burpee SuperSeed 36-Cell Reusable Seed Starter Tray with Pop-Out Silicone
Product description
This SuperSeed starter set includes a 36-cell insert and a matching water reservoir tray. Each cell is made from soft, food-grade silicone that cradles seedlings and flexes to allow seedlings to be popped out with minimal root disturbance. The full tray measures approximately 11.5" x 10-3/8" x 2-1/4".
Drainage is addressed by molded corner slots in each cell that encourage airflow and help excess water escape from the root zone. The lower reservoir has deep channels that pull surplus moisture away from the cells, and a raised outer edge keeps water contained to prevent spills while you tend seedlings. Built-in side handles let you lift the insert to pour off extra water or inspect seedlings without tipping the whole unit.
Rows on the tray are labeled with alphanumeric markers to help you track varieties, and a Plant-o-Gram diagram is included for quick reference when labeling or planning plantings. After seedlings are ready, the silicone cups flex to release plants gently so roots remain intact for transplant into garden beds or larger pots. Trays are easy to wash and store for the next season and are safe on the top shelf of a dishwasher.
For best results, start tender crops indoors ahead of your area's last frost — for instance, peppers around 8–10 weeks and tomatoes about 6–8 weeks before the typical last frost date. Following seed packet directions for timing and depth will improve success. The manufacturer stands behind the product and aims to resolve issues if the item arrives damaged or unsatisfactory.

Durable and easy to reuse
We’ve relied on these for several seasons and they remain simple to use and clean. Bottom-watering ensures steady hydration and good drainage. We own two sizes to match different crops and now have about six trays, which covers our large garden needs every planting season.

Haven’t tried yet but looks promising
I’m waiting until spring to use them, but they seem well made. Reusable cells should save money and effort season to season. Looking forward to testing them.

Gentle on roots, wish it had a lid
I appreciate the push-out bottoms so transplants aren’t harmed, and the slightly larger cells help retain moisture. My only complaint is no cover — a few seedlings were eaten without protection.

Okay but missing a dome
Plants come out easily, which I like, but there’s no humidity dome included. For the price I expected one.

Great for mass starting seeds
I switched from paper cells and found bottom soaking much easier to control moisture without disturbing seeds. I used four 36-cell trays to start annuals and perennials. The build is solid, though the outer reservoir is a bit thin—handle with care. I used seed-starting mix, filled the reservoir about 1/4" for 10–15 minutes until the surface looked damp, then emptied excess to prevent mold. The flexible silicone bottoms make removing seedlings straightforward.

Would be near-perfect with a dome
A decent tray overall; adding a dome would make it ideal for seedlings. Slightly pricey without one.

Well made but pods could be bigger
I like these small starters; construction is solid and the rubbery bottoms make it easy to pop seedlings out. I only wish each pod offered a touch more volume for larger starts.

Reliable windowsill starter
This tray made indoor seed starting much simpler. The larger cell option I used gave seedlings room to form stronger roots before transplanting. It fits nicely on a windowsill, drains well, and feels sturdier than disposable paper starters. After switching to this tray my germination seemed more consistent — great for herbs, veggies, and flowers whether you’re new or experienced.

My go-to starter trays
After trying many options, these are my favorites. The pop-out silicone works well, the size is convenient, and the trays are sturdy. I own several colors and sizes and even nest smaller inserts into larger bases. A humidity dome would be useful, but I keep costs down by reusing clear bakery containers as covers and using a capillary mat trimmed to fit the tray for consistent bottom watering in dry climates.

Arrived damaged
It showed up broken and was unusable. I received a partial refund, but the tray felt flimsy and I’m skeptical about dishwasher claims.
