KEF Q4 Meta Slim On-Wall Hi‑Fi Speaker — Single Unit
Product description
Design and placement
The Q4 Meta is a shallow on‑wall loudspeaker measuring 5.6 inches (depth) and intended to mount beside or above a screen, or behind seating as part of a surround array. Its slim profile lets it act as L/R/C or surround channels where towers or stands are impractical.
Drive units and acoustic technology
At its heart is a 5.25‑inch 12th‑generation Uni‑Q driver array incorporating MAT (Metamaterial Absorption Technology). The MAT element absorbs unwanted reflections and resonances behind the tweeter so midrange clarity and treble detail are preserved. The enclosure uses a bass‑reflex ported design that reaches 52 Hz at -6 dB, with typical in‑room extension down to around 44 Hz.
Electrical and finishes
The speaker presents a nominal 4 ohm load and is recommended to be driven by amplifiers in the 10–150 W per channel range. Each unit is sold individually and includes a colour‑matched magnetic grille; finish options are Satin Black, Satin White or Walnut. The Q4 Meta is timbre‑matched to the rest of the Q Series Meta range so additional Q‑series speakers will blend seamlessly.
Pros
- Detailed, spacious midrange and treble
- Truly slim on‑wall form factor
- Timbre-matched across Q Series Meta
Cons
- Limited deep bass without a subwoofer
- Relatively pricey per single unit
- 4 Ω nominal load needs compatible amplification
VerdictThe Q4 Meta delivers surprising clarity and spaciousness from a low-profile cabinet, making it an excellent option where floorstanding or bookshelf speakers won’t fit. Its Uni‑Q/MAT arrangement tames tweeter diffraction for clear dialogue and detail, while the bass‑reflex design gives respectable low-end for a slim on‑wall box. Best used as part of a matched Q Series Meta system and paired with a

Excellent Speaker, but Fits Specific Needs
A solid KEF product, but its value depends on your situation: you want a thin on‑wall option and accept the size and cost. For front channels I might choose the Q1 Meta for deeper bass, and for surrounds a smaller, cheaper speaker could suffice. At this price the Q4 makes more sense as a pair than as a single unit.

Can Double as Fronts — Add a Sub for Low End
I bought these to replace stereo front L/Rs, so I’m using them outside their typical role. On initial listening they offered good clarity, warmth and frequency separation. As expected they lack the lowest bass of a three‑way floorstander, but aren’t disappointing. Enabling loudness brought up the lower range pleasantly. Driven by 50 W per channel (8 Ω) they perform very well; in a wood‑floored room of roughly 16+8 m² they fill the space comfortably at normal volumes. I’d still recommend adding an 8″ sub for stronger low end and to let the Q4s operate without being pushed.

Punchy, Clear Sound from a Compact On‑Wall Unit
Clean detail and surprising punch for such a slim cabinet. Ideal if you need more than an ultra‑flat TV speaker but lack room for towers or stands. Running these as part of a 3.1 now and I plan to add two more for true 5.1 surrounds. They work especially well as LCR fronts and pair nicely with KEF's Kube 10 sub. Very impressed so far.

Better Than I Anticipated — Good Without a Sub
Honestly surprised by the performance. The bass is usable even without a sub unless you demand heavy low frequencies for EDM or bass‑heavy tracks. Mids are smooth, highs detailed, and the soundstage is convincing. Orchestral pieces reveal instrument separation well. Highly recommended for tight spaces.

Very Good as Surround Channels
Works great as surrounds. I haven’t pushed them hard yet, but the soundstage immediately felt a step up from my previous KEF surrounds.
