KEF Q Concerto Meta Three‑Way Bookshelf Speakers (Pair)
Product description
This pair of bookshelves is KEF’s first three‑way model in the Q family, built to deliver the scale and separation normally expected from much larger floorstanding designs. Each cabinet houses a dedicated 6.5‑inch hybrid aluminium bass driver coupled with a concentric Uni‑Q mid/tweeter array (12th generation) to put vocals and instruments front and centre.
Behind the tweeter a MetaMaterial Absorption Technology (MAT) layer soaks up nearly all unwanted rear‑facing sound, and the Shadow Flare edge contour reduces cabinet diffraction for cleaner, more detailed highs. A purpose‑designed three‑way crossover allows the tweeter, midrange and bass sections to operate without stepping on each other’s output.
Measured response spans 40 Hz–20 kHz at –6 dB, with typical in‑room bass extension reported down to around 36 Hz, while the low frequency duties are handled by the dedicated bass driver for tight, authoritative bass. The speakers are voiced for both high‑resolution stereo listening and to integrate seamlessly with Q Series centre and surround models in a home theater setup.
Electrical design and recommended drive: nominal 4 ohms impedance, suited to amplifiers in the 15–180 W range. The Concerto Metas are supplied as a pair and finished to be seen — available in Satin Black, Satin White or Walnut. Colour‑matched magnetic grilles, port bungs and rubber feet are included for flexible placement and aesthetic options.
Pros
- Impressive three‑way separation and detail
- MetaMaterial + Shadow Flare tame treble artifacts
- Strong, well‑controlled bass for a bookshelf
Cons
- Benefits from room space and positioning
- 4Ω load prefers a capable amplifier
- Relatively large for small shelf spaces
VerdictThe Q Concerto Meta brings true three‑way architecture to KEF’s bookshelf line, blending a 6.5" hybrid aluminium bass unit with the latest Uni‑Q concentric driver for impressive clarity and spacious imaging. Metamaterial Absorption Technology and Shadow Flare geometry clean up the top end, while the three‑way crossover separates voices from low frequencies for a well‑controlled low‑end that reache

Good gear but needs space
Great speakers, but I underestimated the room requirements. In my view a listening area of 20–30 m² gives the best results. Low‑frequency response is a highlight, though I expected a slightly nicer finish for the price.

Masterful soundstage
Fantastic imaging and very natural tonality. With quality electronics they create a three‑dimensional placement of instruments behind the speakers and scale up with better gear.

Absolutely delighted
I’m completely pleased with these Concerto Metas — excellent separation, instrument definition and soundstage. The finish is well executed. If you want a bookshelf entry into hi‑fi, these are a great choice.

Finally found my ideal pair
I tried many bookshelf models and these were the ones that clicked. The Concerto Metas offer clarity without harshness, a beautiful midrange and clean highs, plus a bass and lower mids presence I didn’t realise I was missing. For my tastes they’re perfect.

Unreasonably impressive on a desk
I needed desktop speakers for a compact setup and these fit surprisingly well. Sound quality is otherworldly — paired with an SVS PB‑1000 Pro and a Marantz slim amplifier, I couldn’t be happier.

Small footprint, big performance
Used them in a 12x12 music room and they were fantastic. I even brought them to a large ballroom for a party and they still delivered amazing clarity and punch.

Too muddy for my critical listening
Imaging and soundstage are strong, but I found the bass and low mids muddy and the highs lacking fine detail. They work better at louder volumes; not what I wanted for sensitive, critical listening.

Great for home theater
Wide dispersion both horizontally and vertically, and they dig down into the 40s for low end. Very satisfying for a home cinema front stage.

Very good, but not my top pick
Nice speakers overall, but I preferred another brand’s monitors. The KEFs need some distance from the wall and I liked the other set’s warranty and tonal balance better. They were more ‘exciting’ sounding, but didn’t suit my room.
