Sennheiser HD 280 Pro Closed-Back Professional Headphones (Refurbished)
Product description
Design and build
These are dynamic, closed-back, circumaural (around-ear) headphones built for professional monitoring. The construction is sturdy and modular: ear pads, headband cushion and audio cable can be swapped by the user to extend the unit's service life. The cups swivel and the frame folds for compact storage and added flexibility.
Physical specs
Weight without the cord is approximately 285 g. The single-sided coiled cable stretches from roughly 1 m (3.3 ft) to about 3 m (9.8 ft) when extended. A 3.5 mm mini stereo plug is fitted to the cable and a locking 1/4" adapter is supplied for connection to studio or home equipment.
Performance
The headphones have a nominal impedance of 64 Ω and an extended frequency response rated from about 8 Hz up to 25 kHz, with a sound pressure level around 113 dB. The closed-ear design provides significant passive attenuation of ambient noise—manufacturer figures cite performance up to roughly 32 dB—making them suitable for critical monitoring in noisy environments.
Use and compatibility
Their impedance and sensitivity make them compatible with portable players, phones and tablets that accept a 3.5 mm plug (listen-only on some tablets), as well as with pro audio gear using the included 1/4" adapter. The tight seal and neutral tuning make them appropriate for studio tracking, mixing checks, field work and focused personal listening.
Condition and packaging
Factory-repacked or refurbished examples are generally inspected, may come with original packaging and often include a warranty. Units sold as refurbished are typically in excellent cosmetic and functional condition and may have been used only for demonstration or evaluation.
Pros
- Accurate, neutral sound for monitoring
- Excellent passive isolation and solid build
- User-replaceable pads, headband and cable
Cons
- Tighter clamp can get uncomfortable during very long sessions
- Heavier than some lightweight consumer models
- Wired only; no Bluetooth
VerdictThe HD 280 Pro delivers precise, studio-style sound and very effective outside-noise rejection in a durable, modular package. They’re well suited for tracking, editing and critical listening where neutral response and isolation matter. Expect firm clamping that helps seal sound but can be fatiguing over very long sessions; pads and cable are user-replaceable to extend lifespan.

Reference-quality for the money
Recommended as a solid reference headphone. What I appreciate: detailed, clear sound; a comfortable, secure fit; very effective isolation. They’re reasonably priced for the performance. I don’t have higher-end comparables at hand, but these satisfy my critical listening needs.

Great value and true-to-source sound
I picked a refurbished pair and they sounded like studio headphones straight away—very honest, uncolored playback. The unit I received showed no obvious wear and worked like new. The coiled cable had a few bends from my setup but that didn’t affect performance. They press on the temples a bit, so take breaks if you wear them all day, but otherwise they’re comfortable enough. If you listen carefully to music or need a reliable reference pair, these deliver.

True-sounding, long-wearing monitors
After decades of trying many headphones in the recording world these stand out for honest reproduction and long-wear comfort. They don’t boost highs or lows artificially, so what you hear is reliable for editing and pre-mixing. They won’t replace good studio monitors, but they get you very close when you need to make accurate decisions away from speakers.

Excellent for sensitive ears and tinnitus
These newer-model HD280s were a great pick for me. They don’t aggravate my tinnitus and the ear cups don’t press on my piercings. Soundstage and channel separation are clear, bass is full but controlled. They’re light but feel well made, and I wore them for hours with no discomfort. Strongly recommended if you have similar concerns.
