Sailor Dip Pen Ink Set — Hocoro Fude Dip Pen + Scene Ink (10 ml)
Product description
What you get: one Hocoro fude-style dip pen and one 10 ml bottle of Dipton scene (sheening) dye ink.
Pen details: the Hocoro holder uses a fountain-pen-inspired fude steel nib designed for dip use. When writing the pen measures roughly 0.4 in diameter by 5.3 in long (about 10.7 x 134.4 mm). The body is lightweight and shaped for comfortable handling during extended sketching or lettering sessions.
Ink details and usage: the included ink is a water-based dye labeled as scene or Leap-fig/Scene, supplied in a 0.3 fl oz (10 ml) bottle. The formula is designed to produce a translucent base color with a contrasting metallic sheen when viewed at different angles. Because it’s a dye with sheening additives, it must not be filled into fountain pens; it’s intended for dipping, swatching and decorative work. Expect slower drying times and potential smudging on more absorbent or coated papers.
Pros
- Vibrant sheening ink with metallic flash
- Comfortable Hocoro fude nib for controlled strokes
- Compact kit ideal for swatches and creative use
Cons
- Ink is not suitable for fountain pens
- Sheening dye can be slow to dry and smudge
- Small ink bottle for frequent users
VerdictA solid starter kit for ink lovers who enjoy sheening, decorative inks. The Hocoro fude dip pen is comfortable and easy to handle, and the 10 ml bottle of scene (sheen) dye ink produces vivid translucent color with a metallic flash under light. Performance is tailored to dip pen use — the dye-based sheening formula is not compatible with fountain pens and can take longer to dry and smudge on some

Great for testing colors, wish it fit fountain pens
The sheen on this ink is gorgeous. I only wish the formula could be used in fountain pens, but it’s perfect for dipping to preview colors.

Handy kit for beginners and casual use
The included ink is richly sheening and attractive. The bottle is a decent size for sampling, and the pen is inexpensive yet practical. It’s beginner-friendly and works with many inks and line styles. Make sure the nib grooves click into place; otherwise the tip won’t lock.

Fun pen and vivid purple-green sheen combo
The set produces a deep purple with a green sheen that looks fantastic. I use the dip pen to try inks at my desk before committing them to a fountain pen. Reminder: the calligraphy ink in this kit is not safe for filling a fountain pen.

Tolles Dip Pen-Set
Ich habe schon viel ausprobiert, aber der Dip Pen ist klasse. Lässt sich sehr gut zum Schreiben verwenden und mit Tintenreservoir schafft die Fude fast drei Viertel einer Din-A5-Seite.

My first dip pen — quick learning curve
This was my introduction to dip pens. I tried the fude nib with Blue Flame ink and managed to get usable strokes quickly. I tested it on a variety of papers — dot-grid journal, textured index cards, a mid-range journal and a composition notebook — and saw the sheen most clearly on smoother papers and certain card stocks. On some papers the ink read as a dark blue without obvious sheen, while angling the page revealed the metallic effect.

Lovely sheening ink and a reliable dip nib
I own a few Sailor dip nibs and this kit didn’t disappoint. The ink shows a clear translucent color with a strong metallic sheen depending on light. Nib quality is excellent and writes smoothly. There’s an optional reservoir you can buy to hold more ink between dips if you don’t want to reload as often. I’m cautious about lightfastness, so I’ll use these strokes in sketches and personal items rather than pieces for sale.

Simple kit but tricky for left-handers
Nice, uncomplicated kit and the Blue Flame ink sheens beautifully but dries slowly and smudges — a lefty challenge. Writing over the top was awkward for me, so I now use it mainly for labels and swatches. Still a five-star for me; it’s just my technique that needs work.

User-friendly dip pen, easier than glass pens
After watching demos I tried this and found it straightforward. Unlike glass pens, you don’t need to hunt for an ideal angle — just dip and write. The barrel is comfortable for long use.

Great for pen and ink enthusiasts
I bought this for the ink and was delighted. The fude steel nib is surprisingly smooth for a low-cost tip. It’s more of a playful, decorative tool than something for heavy daily writing, and I’d prefer the ink to be fountain-compatible, but it’s a treat for people who like to explore inks.
