Sea to Summit DryLite Microfiber Towel — X-Large (Desert)
Product description
This DryLite towel is designed to be light and highly packable for camping, backpacking, hiking, boating and travel, yet roomy enough for bath, beach or kitchen tasks.
The fabric is a soft microfiber with an ultra-suede finish that soaks up moisture efficiently. Microfiber construction provides massive surface area compared with standard fibers, which is why the towel releases water and dries far faster than a regular terry cloth.
A snap-stud loop lets you hang the towel from a pack, clothesline or gear for airing, and a mesh-front storage pouch is included to compress and protect it while packing.
Size and care: X-Large measures 29.5 x 59.1 inches and compresses to roughly 7.5 x 7.7 x 1.2 inches. The towel weighs about 8.1 ounces. It is machine washable, but wash it on its own the first time as the dye can bleed.
Pros
- Very fast drying microfiber
- Extremely packable and light
- Included snap loop and mesh pouch
Cons
- Not as plush as cotton towels
- Dye can bleed on initial washes
- Can feel clingy in very humid conditions
VerdictAn excellent lightweight towel for backpacking, bike commutes and travel: highly absorbent, packs very small, and sheds water quickly. Not as fluffy as cotton and colors can bleed, but its size, quick-dry performance and included pouch make it a practical choice for outdoor and everyday use.

Compact, super-absorbent and quick to dry
Soaks up a lot of water, feels soft, and shrinks down small. The carry sack and snap loop make it easy to hang and air out in my car. Perfect for tent or car camping and light enough for backpacking.

Versatile and dependable in the backcountry
I bought both DryLite and plush versions. The DryLite is soft, hangs well from a pack for airing, and dried fast in high desert conditions. It even worked as an improvised cooling cloth and for a camp shower.

Light, thin, pleasant to use — highly recommend
We own several for three adults and two kids. They pack small, absorb well, and dry in the sun. The fabric is comfortable on skin and I’ve never noticed odor when allowed to dry. Handy for flights, lakeside trips and multi-day hikes.

Small towel, big absorbency
Tiny in pack size but very effective at soaking up moisture. One quirk was the snap closure — I wasn’t entirely sure how it worked at first.

Used nearly every day on a long hike
Took this on a multi-week Alpine trek and used it almost daily. Small but incredibly absorbent — held up well on the trail.

Severe dye bleeding experience
Followed the advice to wash alone, but blue dye kept coming out through many rinses until I gave up. After repeated attempts the rinsing water was still deeply colored and I discarded the towel.

Good gear for backpacking trips
Bought the Large for backpacking and emergency kits. It performed well on trail trips where every ounce counts and was easy to carry into remote spots with water features. Reliable, lightweight and effective on the trail.

Practical but not perfect
Has a strange initial smell but remains useful. Absorbency could be a bit better, though it compresses extremely well and I’m still using it after a year.

Handy for wringing out laundry on trips
Traveled light in Iceland and used the towel to absorb moisture from hand-washed clothes by rolling them inside the towel. It pulled a lot of water out and sped drying when paired with room heat — great for laundry emergencies.

Large enough and high quality
We take XL towels to the Lake Michigan dunes. Washed before the trip to reduce dye transfer and they performed fine. The XL covers me lying on the beach and even wraps around a 6'3" partner comfortably.

Perfect for bike commuting and gym use
Switched from a bulky towel to the DryLite for commuting to work. The medium packs down like a rolled shirt, dries me faster than a regular towel, and frees up bag space. Also handy for quick gym showers.

Know what to expect
Great at removing moisture quickly but doesn’t buff you to bone-dry like a thick cotton towel. Feels like lightweight suede on the skin — in humid conditions it can cling and feel damp until your skin finishes air-drying.
