Hanging Mesh Finch & Thistle Seed Feeder — 2 lb Capacity
Product description
Made for finches and other small songbirds, this feeder is tailored to dispense nyjer and thistle seed while allowing birds to cling and feed naturally.
The main feeding tube is constructed from metal mesh so birds can grip the surface as they feed. Several small perches surround the tube, offering comfortable landing spots for multiple birds at once.
Built from iron with a powder-coated finish, the feeder resists rust and holds up to changing outdoor conditions. The finish helps protect the metal from moisture and wear during long-term use.
It holds up to 2 pounds of seed. Filling is simple: unscrew the top hanging screw and lift the cap to pour seed into the reservoir. The design reduces the need for daily refills.
This feeder is intended for backyard birding, gardens, patios and porches. It’s a practical option for bird watchers and anyone who wants to invite finches and similar small species into their outdoor space.
Pros
- Attracts finches and other small songbirds
- Durable powder-coated iron construction
- Large 2 lb top-fill capacity reduces refills
Cons
- Mesh openings can be very fine, limiting seed release
- Bottom tray may not be permanently attached
- Perch steps feel somewhat flimsy
VerdictThis hanging mesh feeder is built to bring finches and other small songbirds to your yard with its cling-friendly tube and perches. The powder-coated iron body resists rust and weather, and the 2 lb top-fill design cuts down on refills. Some users report the mesh openings are very fine and the bottom tray isn’t permanently fastened, which can limit seed access and cause spills. Overall it’s sturdy

Keeps squirrels out
Excellent at deterring squirrels — they can't reach the seed. I don’t have to refill it every day and the squirrels haven’t been able to chew it apart.

Basic and functional
It does the job. Very easy to fill.

Heavy-duty metal feel
Feels solid next to the lightweight plastic feeders I used before. Metal body and top are sturdy, it hangs well outdoors, and the simple silver finish blends into my garden.

Design flaws
Mesh openings are too small and there are no slits above the pegs, so birds struggle to access the seed.

Poor construction and tiny holes
I own several finch feeders but this one was disappointing. I filled it, picked it up by the tube and the base wasn’t secured so all the seed spilled out. I hung it anyway, but the mesh openings are so small the birds can’t extract seed easily — after two weeks the seed level only dropped a fraction. A welded base and larger holes would fix most issues; for the price it felt undersized and poorly finished.

Holes too fine — birds gave up
The screen holes are extremely fine; even nyjer won’t pass through. The birds stopped trying after a while. I can’t return it since I tossed the packaging, and this is the fourth useless finch feeder I’ve discarded.

Big, squirrel-proof, but missing hanging hardware
Bigger than I expected and the birds love it. Squirrels can’t get in and the netting holds seed well. I wish it came with a chain or string to hang from branches, and the steps feel a bit flimsy.
