Why You Should Make This Double Decker Oreo Fudge

  • Foolproof Microwave Method: Forget the candy thermometer, constant stirring, and complicated temperature checks. This fudge is prepared entirely in the microwave, making it virtually impossible to mess up. It’s perfect for novice bakers and seasoned dessert makers alike who appreciate simplicity.
  • A Symphony of Beloved Flavors: The combination of crisp Oreos, smooth white chocolate, and rich dark chocolate is a match made in dessert heaven. Each layer offers a unique texture and taste experience that harmonizes beautifully, creating a complex yet comforting flavor profile that will delight everyone.
  • Perfect for Any Occasion: Whether you need a quick dessert for an impromptu gathering, a thoughtful homemade gift, or a special treat for your family, this fudge fits the bill. Its visually appealing layers also make it a standout on any dessert table.
  • Quick Preparation Time: With just minutes of active prep and cook time, you can have this fudge chilling in the refrigerator in under 15 minutes. It’s the ideal solution for when you need a fantastic dessert without spending hours in the kitchen.

Oreos hold a special place in many hearts, and their appeal is undeniable. For many families, these iconic sandwich cookies are a go-to treat, often preferred in their Double-Stuf variety, though any classic form is usually met with enthusiasm. While some might prefer an Oreo pie crust over the cookie itself, incorporating them into desserts is a surefire way to win over a crowd, especially those with a penchant for sweets.

The discovery of this layered Oreo fudge recipe was a game-changer. It presented the perfect opportunity to combine the universal love for fudge with the irresistible charm of Oreos. The idea of offering a treat that features both rich, creamy fudge and delightful cookie bits was too good to pass up. This recipe ensures that everyone gets to enjoy their favorite indulgence in one spectacular package.

How to Make This Delightful Oreo Fudge

Crafting this luscious Double Decker Oreo Fudge is simpler than you might imagine. The key lies in a few straightforward steps, utilizing the convenience of your microwave to achieve perfectly smooth and delicious layers every time. Follow these instructions for a truly remarkable homemade treat:

  • Gather Your Ingredients: The most crucial ingredient for perfect fudge consistency is sweetened condensed milk. Ensure you have a can of this on hand, and be careful not to confuse it with evaporated milk, which lacks the essential added sugar and will not yield the same creamy texture.
  • Prepare for Layering: Begin by dividing the entire can of sweetened condensed milk evenly between two separate microwave-safe bowls. Into one bowl, add your white chocolate chips, and into the other, your semi-sweet chocolate chips. This separation is key to creating the distinct double-decker effect.
  • Melt the White Chocolate Layer: Place the bowl containing the white chocolate and half of the sweetened condensed milk into the microwave. Heat in short bursts, typically 30-second intervals, stirring thoroughly after each interval. Continue this process until the white chocolate chips appear mostly soft and melted. The residual heat will continue to melt any smaller, unmelted bits as you stir, ensuring a perfectly smooth and uniform mixture.
  • Incorporate Oreos and Form the First Layer: Once your white chocolate mixture is smooth, gently fold in the quartered Oreo pieces. Stir just enough to distribute them evenly throughout the fudge. Immediately pour this rich white chocolate Oreo mixture into your prepared 8×8-inch pan, spreading it into an even layer using an offset spatula for a seamless finish.
  • Prepare the Dark Chocolate Layer: Next, repeat the melting process with the second bowl, which contains the semi-sweet chocolate chips and the remaining sweetened condensed milk. Microwave in 30-second increments, stirring well after each, until the dark chocolate is completely smooth and glossy.
  • Assemble and Chill: Carefully pour the warm, melted dark chocolate mixture over the top of the white chocolate Oreo layer already in the pan. Again, use an offset spatula to gently spread it out evenly, creating a beautiful contrast. Once both layers are perfectly set, transfer the pan to the refrigerator and chill for at least 2-4 hours, or until the fudge is completely firm. Once chilled, lift the fudge out using the foil sling and cut it into squares.

Expert Tips for Making Easy Fudge

Achieving perfectly set, beautifully cut fudge is simple with a few smart techniques. These tips will help you create a professional-looking dessert with minimal fuss.

  • The Non-Stick Foil Advantage: Line your 8×8-inch baking pan with non-stick foil, ensuring it overhangs the sides. This simple step is a game-changer for both easy removal and quick cleanup. Once the fudge is set, you can use the foil overhangs as a sling to lift the entire batch out of the pan. Place it onto a cutting board, then simply peel back the foil before slicing.
  • The Magic of an Offset Spatula: For a truly polished finish, an offset spatula is your best friend. Its angled blade allows you to spread both the white chocolate and dark chocolate layers smoothly and evenly across the pan. This not only makes the fudge look more appealing but also ensures each piece has a consistent texture and thickness.
  • Precision Cutting for Perfect Squares: To get neat, clean slices, especially after the fudge has fully set, here’s a professional trick: run a sharp knife under very hot water, then wipe it completely dry before each cut. The heat from the blade will glide through the fudge cleanly, preventing crumbling or dragging. Repeat this warming and drying process as needed for every cut.
  • Quality Ingredients Matter: While this recipe is incredibly forgiving, using good quality chocolate chips and fresh Oreos will elevate the flavor significantly. High-quality chocolate melts more smoothly and offers a richer taste.
  • Don’t Overheat: When melting the chocolate in the microwave, be patient and use short intervals. Overheating chocolate can cause it to seize or become grainy. Stirring frequently helps distribute the heat and ensures a silky-smooth consistency.
  • Patience with Chilling: Resist the urge to cut into the fudge before it’s fully set. Adequate chilling time (at least 2-4 hours, or even overnight) is crucial for the fudge to firm up properly, allowing for clean cuts and preventing it from being too soft or sticky.

Rated 5 out of 5 stars by 49 reviewers.

Ingredients

  • 14 ounces sweetened condensed milk, divided equally (1 standard can)
  • 10 Oreo cookies, coarsely chopped into quarters
  • 1 cup white chocolate chips (good quality for best melting)
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter (for the white chocolate layer)
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Line an 8 x 8-inch baking pan with non-stick foil, leaving an overhang on the sides to create a “sling” for easy removal. Set the prepared pan aside.
  2. Divide the sweetened condensed milk equally between two separate microwave-safe bowls. Chop the Oreos into quarters and set aside.
  3. In one bowl, combine the white chocolate chips and 2 tablespoons of butter with half of the sweetened condensed milk. Microwave on high for 30 seconds, then stir well. Continue microwaving in 15-20 second intervals, stirring after each, until the white chocolate is completely smooth and melted. Stir in the chopped Oreos. Pour this mixture into the prepared pan and spread evenly to form the first layer.
  4. In the second bowl, combine the semi-sweet chocolate chips with the remaining sweetened condensed milk. Microwave in the same manner as the white chocolate (15-20 second intervals, stirring in between) until the semi-sweet chocolate is completely smooth and melted.
  5. Carefully pour the melted semi-sweet chocolate mixture over the white chocolate Oreo layer in the pan. Gently spread it out evenly with an offset spatula. Refrigerate the fudge for at least 2-4 hours, or until completely set. Once firm, use the foil sling to lift the fudge from the pan and cut it into 25 squares.

Notes

For impeccably clean and neat slices, use a sharp knife. Before each cut, run your knife under very hot water, then thoroughly dry it. The warm, dry blade will glide through the fudge without sticking or dragging, ensuring perfect squares every time. Repeat this process as needed.
